The College of Teachers was originally known as the College of Preceptors, and changed its name in 1998 to keep up with the times. The College of Teachers aims to be at the forefront of continuing professional development and promoting the teaching profession. The College, under its Royal Charter, is empowered to provide professional qualifications for teachers of ESOL/TESOL and validates a number of distance-learning TESOL/ESOL courses.
